Following his split-decision loss to Diego Sanchez, Ross Pearson and his camp have lodged an appeal with the New Mexico Athletic Commission.
Pearson lost a split decision to Sanchez on Saturday in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 42, which took place at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque. It was the UFC’s debut in New Mexico. The main card aired on FOX Sports 1.
The Telegraph in London first reported the appeal. A request for comment from the New Mexico Athletic Commission by MMAjunkie wasn’t immediately returned on Monday.

But longtime Pearson training partner and cornerman Dean Amasinger on Monday confirmed to MMAjunkie that the fighter’s camp filed the appeal after the loss, saying the team hopes the decision is overturned, at the very least to a no-contest.
Pearson took a 30-27 from judge Marcos Rosales, and that was the prevailing opinion of the MMA media. Thirteen of 14 media scores tracked by MMA Decisions scored the fight 30-27 for Pearson. The 14th had it 29-28 for him.
Yet almost inexplicably, judge Jeff Collins scored the fight 30-27 for Sanchez, and Chris Tellez had it 29-28 for him, giving him the first and third rounds, and the second to Pearson – the round in which he had the knockdown and takedown.
“I wrote a detailed explanation of why I thought it was unsatisfactory, (and) how we thought the rounds were scored,” Amasinger told MMAjunkie. “I put the details and links to the FightMetric stuff that we’d already been able to see because it was probably 14 minutes after the fight. I put what MMA journalists had put, where every single one of them had scored it toward Ross. My main grievance was the inconsistency of one judge being 30-27 toward Sanchez, which we just can’t see where that was from, and I even made the statement to (check the scorecards individually).
